River 3D System

The RIVER Project was a research project conducted for Brunel University.

The project consisted of building a 3D software tool and research materials.

The software tool is capable of rapidly creating 3D scenes with a varying number of landscape textures, 3D models and deformable landscape. The landscape is deformed through a number of drawing tools.

This system was created in order for comparison experiments to be conducted. Approaches compared, in this instance included the use of Discreet's 3DSMaxScript language and Alias Maya's MELScript Language.

The 3D Landscape WinForms application was developed using C# and the .NET 2 framework utilising the 3D capabilties of Managed Direct X9. We developed the proprietary software along with well written PDF instructions for the complete experimental scenario for each approach, allowing the principle investigator of the research project to carry out other duties, such as the writing of research papers and proposals, administration and teaching.
